Our Story
It all started when my niece lost her childhood dog, Doug. He had been her best friend since she was little, and the house felt empty without him. I wanted to give her something special to commemorate him-something that would last forever and capture the joy he brought to her life.
As a woodworker, I turned to my garage shop and my laser engraver. The first PetPic I made was for her, and when she saw Doug's face etched into warm walnut, something clicked. It wasn't just a picture. It was a piece of art with soul. The way the wood grain peeked through the engraving added a depth no print could match.
Word spread quickly among friends and family, and soon I was spending every weekend in my garage wood shop making PetPics for other pet lovers. Today, Pet Pics on Wood has grown into something I never imagined, but every single piece still gets the same care and attention as that first PetPic for Doug.
How Each PetPic is Made
Every PetPic starts with your photo. I personally inspect each photo to make sure it'll translate beautifully onto wood, checking focus, lighting, and the expression that makes your pet unmistakably them.
Once the image is prepared, I use a high-precision laser engraver to burn the PetPic directly into the wood surface. After engraving, I hand frame your PetPic with Black Walnut.
Then comes the finish. I apply a non-toxic, water based poly urethane with a beautifully glossy sheen. Before any piece ships, I inspect it under natural light to make sure the contrast, depth, and detail meet my standards.
Meet the Maker
I'm Russ, and this whole thing started in my garage with a laser engraver, a stack of scrap wood, and a promise to make something meaningful for my niece. I'm a woodworker first, a pet lover second, and an uncle always. When I'm not in the shop covered in sawdust, I'm probably with my own pets or helping my niece take care of hers!
